My company assigned me a frame case to set up a solar system on the roof of a factory, and I found a L.T.B problem of the steel structure which I wanna let you know the calculation details. The computer program STAAD.Pro 2007 is adopted, and I check the results by the hand calculation. When you use the computer program, you cannot discover what the problem is. This member is a simple beam with the Dead Load 24.75kgf/m and Wind Load 272.25kgf/m, and the section RH150x75x5x7 is selected. The steel material is CNS SM400, and its self-weight is 14.0kgf/m. In the general design methodology, the engineers always take Lp to control the member length, but sometimes they may not be able to use the same approach for every case. I show you a real case, and it shall be a good example for reference.
