Structural Design of the Dead Loads as the Past Methodology
Abstract
In the past, the ASD, WSD and USD are the traditional methodology of the structural design, and the dead loads are the primary objective of the structural design for the engineering structures. After the USD is proposed in 1971 from the ACI Committee, and the LRFD has changed the load factors again and again. However, the load factors cannot be suitable results for the every engineering project, and the primary problem is the external forces are uncertain to define the exact load factors. The PD is controlled by the β value, and the value comes from the USD. Hence, the PD can be applied on the several engineering structures, including the steel structures, the cold rolling steel structures, the titanium structures, the aluminum structures, the wood structures, the carbon fiber structures, the glass fiber structures, and so on; the USD can be applied on the other engineering structures, including the reinforced concrete structures, the steel reinforced concrete structures, the brick structures, the stone structures, and so on.
